Emergency Notification System

In an emergency, it is crucial to use various forms of communication to stay updated. Keep an eye on news broadcasts, radio stations, social media websites, and weather radios. Do not compromise your safety by waiting for a phone call or notification. If you ever feel threatened, take immediate action to ensure your safety.

The Emergency Notification System

The Emergency Notification System, powered by Everbridge and often called "Reverse 9-1-1," is utilized by the City of Kissimmee's 9-1-1 center, police department, and fire department to send rapid alerts to specific geographic areas.

This system allows the City to notify you of emergency situations that pose a threat to life or property or are deemed dangerous by public safety officials. Notifications may include, but are not limited to:

  • Man-made disasters
  • Hazardous materials incidents
  • Missing persons
  • Crime alerts
  • Neighborhood or business evacuation notices

This system is part of the AlertOsceola! program through the Osceola County Office of Emergency Management. For more information about Osceola County Emergency Management, visit their website.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I Still Sign Up Without a Home Phone?

Absolutely! Even if you don't have a landline, you can still register for the Emergency Notification System. The existing database only contains landline numbers, which limits notifications to homes and businesses with landlines. By creating an account, you can enroll for text notifications, emails, or phone calls on your cell phone, ensuring you stay informed.

How Many Locations Can I Register?

The system is flexible, allowing you to sign up for alerts at up to five different locations and register up to eight contacts to receive time-sensitive messages. This means you can receive alerts for locations such as:

  • Your home
  • Place of employment
  • Your child's school (public safety issues in the area, not specific school incidents)
  • Parent's home

Whether through a phone call, text message, or email, important notifications will be available to you anytime and anywhere.

Is There a Mobile App?

Yes, the Everbridge App is available on the App Store and Google Play, or at everbridge.com/app. Your mobile device will receive push notifications, including a map of the affected area. Download the Everbridge App to:

  • Add another communication channel so you never miss an important alert
  • Receive push alerts when traveling into an area with an active incident
  • See a map of messages affecting your home, work, and travel areas
  • Opt-in immediately and anonymously (this method only allows alerts for the device's current location; registering an account allows alerts for up to five physical locations)

Configuring the Everbridge App:

  1. Download the Everbridge App from the App Store or Google Play.
  2. Open the app and allow notifications.
  3. Find organization or subscription: Search for "City of Kissimmee" or "Kissimmee" and select "Osceola County - City of Kissimmee" to sign in to your account.

To use the app without an account:

  1. Click "Explore the Map".
  2. Allow Everbridge to access your location services by tapping "Allow" when prompted.
  3. Check alerts anytime by touching the location marker icon labeled "Local". Note: Without an account, you will only receive alerts via the Everbridge App if you are in the area of an active notification.
