Through direction from the City Commission, the City of Kissimmee participates and implements various initiatives associated with social services, homelessness, and affordable housing.
Social Services & Quality of Life
Each year, various non-profit organizations apply with the City of Kissimmee through the Social Services Funding Process. The City Commission then reviews each request and votes to allocate hundreds of thousands of dollars to help fund programs aimed at fighting homelessness, providing mental health and substance abuse treatment, helping families with case management and support, and other countless services.

HSN is lead agency for the HUD Continuum of Care FL-507 for the area including Osceola, Seminole and Orange Counties, including the Cities of Orlando, Kissimmee, and Sanford. They administer more than 32 grants through sub-recipient agencies who provide services to the homeless in our continuum region. HSN funds programs that provide transitional and permanent housing, supportive services and ongoing case management for the homeless in our continuum region.

2-1-1 is a FREE service provided by United Way that connects area residents to critical health and social service resources when they need help. From help with a household bill, food assistance, or counseling for suicide prevention, calling United Way's 2-1-1 help line is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Through the use of SHIP Program funding, the City of Kissimmee allocates funds to manage programs that assist with:

Request Housing Assistance
This program provides assistance to Osceola County residents who are in danger of becoming homeless due to their inability to pay their monthly rent. Assistance is up to two months of rent payable to the landlord.

Through the Building Strong Families program, which is administered by the Osceola Council on Aging, eligible participants may receive a variety of assistance, including nutrition/food assistance.

Kissimmee Utility Authority, through their Good Neighbor Utility Assistance Fund, collects donations from other KUA customers and then donates those funds to Osceola County Council on Aging to manage a utility assistance program for residents who are unable to pay their power bill.

Help Now, Inc. provides temporary safe shelter for survivors of domestic abuse facing imminent danger. They are committed to supporting individuals as they establish violence free living.
Help Now Domestic Abuse Advocates provide quality domestic abuse advocacy to shelter clients and their children, as well as to individuals whom call the Domestic Abuse Crisis Line. The goal of the advocate is to empower survivors to become comfortable with making decisions that are right for them.

The Osceola County Veterans Services Office is Osceola County's local government office charged with acting as your veterans' benefits advocates. The Office is staffed by Osceola County employees under the direction of an accredited County Veteran Service Officer (CVSO), not VA employees.
The Osceola County Veterans' Service Office is responsible for assisting disabled and needy war veterans, members of the U.S. Armed Forces and their dependents, and the widows and orphans of deceased veterans entitled to benefits under any federal, state, and local government laws, rules or regulations by their service in the Armed Forces of the United States. The Osceola County Veterans' Services Office staff meets or exceeds the requirements of Florida Statute 292.11
